  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 cup white wine such as a Chardonnay

  • 1/2 cup oil

  • 2 1/2 cups flour

  • 1/2 cups sugar

  • 2 tbsp aniseed

  • 1 egg *to brush on top of cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Make egg wash with 1 egg and a 1/4 tsp water. Mix thoroughly and set aside.

  3. Mix together all dry ingredients.

  4. Add in wet ingredients.

  5. Mix thoroughly. *the texture should be just like a cookie dough. If it is not firm enough, add up to 1/2 cup flour.

  6. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

  7. Taking about a tsp or so of dough, roll in between hands and form into a “half pretzel” or “ribbon”.

  8. Place on baking sheet and brush top of each cookie with egg wash.

  9. Place in oven for 20 mins. *the bottom of each cookie should be golden brown.

Notes/Quick Tips:

  • These are some of the easiest cookies to mix but they are time consuming to place on the baking sheet.

  • Italian cookies are not super sweet. They are a great additional to your coffee or tea.

  • If you let the dough set for a while, the oil will start to separate. That is ok. Just mix and keep going. It is best to make the cookies right away though to avoid that.
